Volunteering

The work and the collaboration of the volunteers are essential, without them the association couldn’t reach its purposes. ITSAS GELA works in three important areas, where the volunteers can take part at the programs of any of these areas. All kind of    contribution is welcomed; the knowledge of our volunteers is the most important tool at this association.

ACTION AREA 1: SHIP MUSEUM MATER:

o   Program of promotion and diffusion of the ship museum :

• Participation and contribution of knowledge within the guided tour to the ship museum MATER.
• Participation and contribution of knowledge within the environmental education program “marine workshops”.
• Acomplishment of pedagogic and divulgation materials in different formats.
• Accomplishment and organisation of seminars, festivals, exhibitions and other kind of events related to the sea heritage.

o  Program of conservation and recovery of the ship museum:

• Maintenance daily works of the ship; watering the wooden ship with sea water in the morning and in the evening, painting and sanding of the installations, starting of motors…

• Annual works of maintenance and reparations: annual painting of the helmet, several works of carpentry, maintenance of the boiler and the engine room…

- AREA OF ACTION 2: The cultural marine heritage of Pasaia:

o  Program of promotion and diffusion of the cultural marine heritage of Pasaia:

• Participation and contribution of knowledge within the guided tours around Pasaia: about history, culture, fishing, rowing, oral tradition,…

• Accomplishment and organisation of festivals, exhibitions and any kind of events related to the sea cultural heritage.

o  Program about the conservation and the recovery of the cultural marine heritage of Pasaia:

• Recovery of the memory of our fishermen and of our marine history: bibliographical interviews with retired sea workers, and with other sea institutions…
  
• Recovery of the significant elements of the marine cultural heritage.

- AREA OF ACTION 3: The natural marine patrimony:

o  Program of promotion and diffusion of the natural marine patrimony:

• Participation and contribution of knowledge within the environmental itineraries.
  
• Accomplishment of programs and campaigns of environmental awareness.
  
• Compilation and accomplishment of pedagogic and divulgation materials in different formats.
  
• Accomplishment and organisation of festivals, exhibitions and all kind of events related to the sea patrimony.

o  Program of conservation and recovery of the natural marine patrimony:

• Recovery of beaches and coves.
• Participation in the AZTERKOSTA network ( The Basque version of the European Programme COASTWATCH) of environmental surveillance, which take the section of the Basque coast of Jaizkibel- Ulia.
